Internship

A word, that suddenly came out of mind mind this afternoon is "internship". Yes, but I don't really know why.

As I remembered, I did internship twice. To act like a teacher for elementary school students for three months and also front desk agent in a three star hotel for three months too. It's funny how I chose that two internships when now I end up being an editor of a lifestyle magazine in this paradise island. I'm lucky, maybe? More than that..

Wait, so what's the point now? To be honest, I am in my boredom now. I just stared on my intern at my office and knew how she felt too. Don't force me for not giving her too much jobs, well.. it's kinda difficult to be explained, um.. okay forget then.

I just want to smile, remembering the good and bad things I did in my past.

Internship 1: English Teacher

I was a tutor, English tutor. I started to be a tutor, joined a education institution in my 4th semester. To early? Well, I was that 'smart' enough to teach children how to do proper English that time. Then.. when almost all of my friend chose to do an internship in Tourist Information Center, I chose to do what I am expert in; teaching. I can make syllabus, I can stand in front of the class being a center of attention, I can make them stare at me. I don't know why I was that awesome. Hahaha.

Three months. Well, not really three months. I taught three class a week for three months in an elementary school near Palace complex in my hometown, Yogyakarta. It was an awesome experience. Even now, I can still hear their voice greeting my name; "Good morning, Miss Tiara!" God, it seems like I miss to be the center of attention and receive a lot of attention now. Ups!

Internship 2: Front Desk Agent

I thought hospitality industry was a big industry that keeps growing anyway, and yes it is. That's the only reason why I let myself to 'try' and 'feel' the hospitality atmosphere. I am good in English, at least compared to my friends that time. I can speak and listen well, so humble and nice to everyone, then the hotel where I put my CV let me join in Front Office Department.

It was one of the hardest three months in my university life. I learnt all the stuffs from filling document, online and phone reservation, hotel system, too many stuffs! Regret? Not at all. At least I know how it feels to work in hospitality industry, so then later on when I want to come back I know how to handle it well. In the first two weeks I wanted to give up, but there are two people who keeps me stay. One of them is myself, who keeps telling myself that I can do anything, to finish what I already started. Well, I guess I learn how to terribly survive from my second internship then. How, naif.

Now, I am not an intern anymore. I met some interns under my supervise in this office since a year ago; Annelies from Groningen, Saras and Karin from Bandung, Amy from Utrecht, and now Nikki also from Groningen. I hope I gave them enough good things to learn for their lives.
